Health Insurance for Single moms???
I currently work full time and have health insurance through my work. I habe recently started getting regular child support payments from my ex, and can now budget to work part time and stay home with my daughter. Her father is in the national guard and does nothing for her but pay support so I dont know if there are any programs through the army that would provide her with insurance-so to be on the safe side, I am applying for Hoosier Healthwise for her. The only thing stopping me from making the move, is that by going part time, I loose MY health insurance and I cannot afford to go through a separate standard health insurance company. My question (finally) is: Are there any health insurance programs out there (whether it is via college classes, reduced premiums, or other forms of assistance) that could help me get covered? I only have a two prescriptions that I get regularly and am otherwise healthy.... any help would be SO appreciated!!!
As a dependent she could be covered by Tricare, which is the military health system. Your ex will need to set that up for her. The plan will be better but you may not be close enough to a military facility to use the services.
Other than Medicaid, there is no real program for you. There are hundreds of plans available so you'll want to visit a local independent agent to see if a plan is available to fit your situation and budget.
You may get answers here concerning medical discount cards. Be very wary of these cards, as most are scams. Here is an article concerning one of these cards: http://www.insurancejournal.com/news/wes... that explains how one such card was banned from Montana. Many other states are considering a ban.
