Health insurance question?
so i just got health insurance for me and my family for the first time ever and i dont understand what the deductible is, will the insurance cover anything until we pay the deductible?
A deductible is just llike your car insurance if you have full coverage. After you cover your deductible amount then the insurance will cover the remainder. For instance if you have coverage that only covers a percentage of a certain thing such as a prescription you may want to consider this as a copay. If you don't fully understand this deductible then call your health care provider and explain to them you are new to this. Many providers also want a referral from your doctor before going to a specialist, so confirm the issues you have before.
Not all insurance polices are the same. You'll need to look up your insurance company's phone number and make them answer your questions.
You must meet the deductible before the insurance covers anything.
Call your Member Services department for more detailed answers.
you pay everything until you pay the amt of your deductible then ins. kicks in
Typically the deductible is your responsibility before the insurance company will begin paying. This can be per treatment or per year or per plan. You should just call and ask.
I worked at a pharmacy before not until you pay that deductible you wont see any real coverage...I know this for prescription only
Some insurance has deductibles per category or just a blanket deductible for the year. For instance, your deductible may be $300. So until you spend $300, the insurance doesn't pay anything. If you're not sure, give your insurance company a call.
anything??
you need to check your coverage. but lets say, you have surgery, and its covered by your insurance,, you can have the surgery , you can pay the deductible before if it was planned or they will nicely send you a bill (for sure) if it was an emergency.still you need to check your coverage, and always try to go to physicians within the network so that deductibles can be less expensive
no it doesn't mean that. for regular visits to dr you pay a co-pay (for me its 20 bucks) they pay the rest. You should call your insurance company and ask them to explain exactly what they will cover you
Usually the deductable has to be met before the insurance starts paying. Say your deductable is $300....you pay until you reach that amount, then the insurance will cover a certain percentage.
That depends on the insurance. Usually, there are some things that are covered regardless of the deductible, but you may have a co-pay. Other insurances don't cover anything until the deductible is met. What it means is that there is a set amount of out-of-pocket expense that must be paid by the family before the insurance kicks in, and that amount is over and above the co-pay that also exists. For example, if you go to the emergency room and the charge is $1,000, your co-pay is $50 for ER, and your deductible for the year is $500. When you check out of the ER, your co-pay is paid immediately land up-front to the hospital. They bill the insurance company who sends them $450 along with a notice that the rest is your responsibility as deductible and you receive a bill for $500. A month later, you again go to the ER - you pay $50 and the insurance covers $950 because your deductible has been met.
Hey! I don't know, click on my source. OK? Read it. Yeah.
do ask about the details of the deductible as these folk suggest.
AND, you get another very important benefit no matter what the answer is -- the insurance company has bargained for you on cost already.
that's very important in some areas. Example: my routine blood work last Dec. was billed at $650 but my insurance knocked that down to $85 and I paid $24 of it. that's a huge benefit compared to not having any insurance.
doctors aren't this bad, but hospitals are as over the top as the blood work.
Call your insurance company. Ask them. If it's through your employer, find out who to call in the company. This may or may not have been expensive for you but please you are paying for this insurance. Get the best for you and your family.
You can go to http://www.lvhealthins.com and read about deductibles and coinsurance. You can find lots of useful information about health insurance.
Read your plan description that you got when you enrolled; if you didn't get it, ask your HR function for it. In general, a deductible is the cost for a procedure that you must pay before the insurance starts to pay.
