Do insurance companys cover you if?

ok my bf and i were talking about this the other day...if i was to become pregnant in the next few months and he doesn't want me working if im pregnant or working as much so i would lose my insurance threw my job (im a nurse aid at a nursing home) would i able to either A. go on his insurace til the baby was born? or B. if we got married right away would i able to go on his insurance after knowing i was pregnant

If your bf is covered by a group policy and you get married, your pregnancy will be covered as long as you enroll as a spouse within 31 days of the "qualifying event" (i.e. marriage) AND pregnancy is covered under the group policy. Federal law prohibits ANY group plan from considering pregnancy to be a pre-existing condition.

HOWEVER, if your bf is covered under his own policy (i.e. not a group policy), then your condition will probably be considered pre-existing. He would have to speak with his insurer for details.

There are other alternatives:

1) elect COBRA coverage after you leave work or reduce your hours;
2) enroll in your state's Children's Health Insurance Plan (which is NOT the same as Medical Assistance). For more information, do a web search;
3) enroll in Medical Assistance if you don't get married before the baby is born.
You'd have to get married, to get added to his insurance. If you have your own coverage, and you just go from your policy to his, as long as his has maternity benefits, it should still cover the baby.

OR, you can pay for your health insurance out of pocket each month, through COBRA, until the baby is born.

But the fastest way for a woman to be financially ruined, is to have a baby outside marriage. There isn't any security for you, and it's a 20 year committment to another person (the baby). It's not just the money, it's the TIME. It's really, really hard to be a single mom.
Depending on the state that you are in, pregancy is viewed as a pre-existing condition. The same is true regarding being able to go on your boyfriends policy. Depends on the state you live in.

Here's an idea: GET MARRIED BEFORE YOU BECOME PREGNANT. That would solve all of your worries. It wouldn't matter if you got pregnant the day after you went on this insurance. It would be covered.
I don't know how that works. You will probably need to call your company and find out that way. You would probably get paid for maternity leave. You should probably also call his company and find out there rules.
